Work-life and work-family relationships are undergoing dramatic transformation in our society. New technology such as cell phones and text messaging, changing social norms and work and family structures, have led to an unprecedented era of blurring of boundaries between work and home. Many individuals across the economic strata are feeling some form of work-family conflict and stresses, though it may look and feel different depending on one's job, personal and family demographics, and the organizational or cross-cultural context in which one is embedded. This website provides current and scholarly work-life content based on the research and teaching of Professor Ellen Ernst Kossek, who is a leading researcher and educator on managing organizational change involving work-life initiatives and the employment relationship, international human resources management, workplace inclusion, and diversity.. Ellen Ernst Kossek (Ph.D. Yale)is University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University’s School of Labor & Industrial Relations. Dr. Kossek is Associate Director of the Center for Work, Family Health and Stress of the U.S. National Institutes of Health National Work, Family and Health Network. She was elected to the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Management, Chair of the Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division,, and a Fellow of APA and SIOP. She has won many awards including the Sage Scholarly Achievement award recognizing research to advance gender and diversity in organizations. She has received funding from Alfred P. Sloan and Gerber Foundations, CDC and NIH, foreign governments, and employers. She serves or has served on many journal editorial boards, boards of directors, and advisory boards. She has published seven books on diversity, work-life and human resource management, most recently CEO of Me: Creating a Life That Works in the Flexible Job Age (with Lautsch, 2008, Wharton School Publishing), a book on work-life flexstyles.
